The End of February and Fresh Starts

Well I never was able to get back into the swing of things for February. Life got in the way. So I have let it go and am trying to catch up on life. Part of why I was excited about this year long plan was how easy it would be to let one month go and start fresh if it wasn’t working out. Well, I still feel guilty!!! I shouldn’t because I did accomplish a lot this month. So I will shake it off and start fresh for March. On a positive note, I have been drinking 64 oz of water a day! I am really excited for April as there is a green smoothy challenge I want to try. But I can’t get the info until April.

March challenges! A cleaning challenge, I will continue to Declutter as the areas suggested to be cleaned warrant it, but my focus will be more on cleaning. 30 day cleaning challenge

Secondly, for fun, I will do a 30 day hair challenge! This one I may or may not hit every day but even if I just get a few in, it will be fun! 30 day hair challenge

And finally another fitness challenge….30 day fitness challenge

I just don’t care!

The past few…days? Weeks? It feels like forever…I have been struggling keeping up on my challenges. In fact, tonight’s ab set I am skipping because it’s a lot of side plank stuff which, in the past, I have done wrong and hurt myself. The decluttering has been hard because I haven’t had time to get rid of the stuff I am decluttering. So I am not motivated because I have too many bags of stuff in the way. So discouraged. However, tomorrow I will start fresh. I will stop trying to catch up and just start on day 14. I’m not too terribly far behind, but I have done only have hearted decluttering the past few days. So tomorrow I will make trips to get rid of bags and I will also do day 14. Halfway. Need a second wind.

Catching Up

In sorting through my bookshelves I came across several pieces of writing that I had begun and never finished. Treasures. Treasures that will never be published, may or may not get finished, but treasures nonetheless. Perhaps one of my future 30-day challenges could be to finish one of these treasures and publish it here. Perhaps…

What has happened so far…
4 large bags donated
4 more filled
1 bin of books ready to be donated
Quite a bit of trash dumped
Abs, abs, and more abs!

I actually got begin on the Declutter challenge but I am caught up today. The ab challenge has been going great! Some days it feels a bit too easy, not sure if that is progress or simply not doing the exercises correctly. But I am sticking to it!

Things that have helped…taking the bags to the trash and to donation has really encouraged me a lot when it comes to not giving up. It has also helped me to be motivated to catch up even though I was three days behind. With the ab challenge the advantages are that it has built in rest days. That has motivated me not to get behind so that I can have the rest days at the proper time and see how well the program works.

I have also added a smaller challenge that is not confined to one month. I am getting up 1 minute earlier a day until I am getting up at 6:30 a.m. It will take me a while to get there but it will help me when I start going to the gym in the mornings.

So here we go, 9 days in and so far so good!

Oh one last note! I have also added drinking water to my daily challenge. I am not going all in and trying for 8, 8 oz. cups a day…simply trying to drink 16 oz in the morning when I take my vitamins, and 16 oz at night when I take my vitamins. I am also trying to cut back on other types of beverages and adding more tea to the mix. So far so good!

Rest Day

The 28-day ab challenge has a rest day every fourth day. I am so glad because yesterday was difficult. I was beginning to doubt my ability to continue but knowing today would be a rest day helped me get through the workout. Turns out the Declutter challenge also gave me a rest day without intending to. The closet I was supposed to clean out today was actually clean. I looked at it, realized it was good, and counted my challenges for the day finished.

So tonight I cleaned my kitchen, made meringues, started making a few more homemade extracts, and cleaned out my mice cage. Productive rest day.

At this point I have a pile that is probably too big for my car ready to be donated. I am trying to figure out if I have time before Saturday to do this. Not sure. But other than that the challenges are going well. I am trying to remember that this is a Declutter challenge not a cleaning challenge. Which is hard. I want to try to clean everything, but if I do that I will run out of steam. So I have been just keeping up with the normal basics and simply decluttering. Maybe next month I will deep clean.

The New Adventure Has Begun!!!

The day has finally arrived! I have been looking forward to this day for a while now. I started with the ab challenge, it was squats, a straight leg crunch and starfish…it’s ok if you don’t know what those are. I was doing 15 of each move 3 times. I started off with the squats…not bad, I can do this  then the straight leg crunch and I thought, ok this will challenge me by the third rep but still doable. But the first round of the starfish I realized I might not make it through 3 rounds! So I took a 1 minute break after that set and started again  with similar thought processes. I did the starfish in sets of five with a  few second break in between. By the end of the second round I was exhausted!!! But I got through it, and through a third round and I was so happy! I can already feel it in my legs and abs. It makes me excited to see how I feel after the 28 days! But, I am not going to post before and after pictures.

Then I moved on to my second challenge of cleaning out things. I forgot to post previously the link to this one. So here it is: 28-Day Declutter Challenge. I do not have a husband or children so I have adjusted the list to fit me. The first item was toys, so I did my shoes. Here’s the before pic:

And here is the after pic:

I was trying to get the shoes down to the absolute necessities but I kept a few that probably weren’t necessary. One day, one day I will have a shoe closet that is more like less fortunate countries. But for today, I am happy with what I have accomplished.

The Final Lap Begins, But February Looms

I am super excited about today’s post because I have decided what I am going to do for my February challenge! But first things first…update on January…I did spend some this past week but it was for my boyfriends birthday and I had planned on that. I am a little concerned as my grocery budget is used up for the month but I think I can finish off the last 5 days with no problems. So, that being said, let’s look a February…

I have been discouraged about how my clothes have been fitting but I hesitated doing an exercise challenge because of a foot problem that still needs a few weeks to heal. But I have also really been discouraged by the clutter in my house. So I have decided to take on two challenges in February. The first is a 28-day ab workout. This is something I can easily do without aggravating my foot. Plus it should only take about 5 minutes a day.

My second challenge intrigues me. It is a different space every day to clean out. I had decided already I should try to take a load once a week to either the dump or the thrift store (depending on the load). This particular list includes husbands and kids but I can adjust those. When it talks of spouse closets and such I can use that to work on summer closet or finish off if I got behind.

My goal with both of these is not to stress if I miss a day. But I will simply skip whatever day I missed and continue on with the corresponding day number.

So, five days left to go of my financial fast and, in spite of a few slip ups, over all I have been able to get back a hold of my spending habits as well as get my finances on the road to recovery. I will continue through February to cut back on spending and by March I should be able to start building up my savings again.

Do True Pantsers Exist?

As I prepare for NaNoWriMo I have been browsing their blogs and trying to learn as much as I can. I have also downloaded an app called Novel Idea to help me get some of my thoughts down.

As a naturally unorganized person I would be more likely to be called a Pantser. Someone who flies by the seat of her pants. As opposed to a planner, someone who outlines and prepares before writing. I am actually more in between. I tend to write things down so I don’t forget, scenes, ideas, character sketches. But I started wondering if a true Pantser exists? Does anyone out there truly sit down without a clue as to what they are going to write and write it? Now obviously I am not saying that this isn’t a first draft, but to sit down and write a whole novel, or even a short story, without any prep sounds like the ultimate of brainstorming sessions to me.

So tell me, can a true Pantser exist? Or are we all an amalgamation of planning and chaos?
