Stalled

I have kind of stalled out on writing for this blog. I was excited about the challenges every week and had a format and an outline for the entire year. But I can’t seem to get the blog to pour out of me like it used to. To top that off I have had an idea that I haven’t focused on because I feel I should start with this blog. So I am going to let myself off the hook. I am going to stop trying to write. I really want to be serious about my writing but I need to choose when I am writing where my priorities lie.

So I am sad to say because I love doing this, but I am stopping this blog for a while.

Which Gates?

Proverbs 31:23 Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.

The bars of a cell in Alcatraz hopefully are not the gates that you speak of those in authority above you. To be known at the gates was to be respected. To be thought well of. This weeks challenge is to speak well of your boss, your husband or another authority figure of your choosing. Again, if you are married, please start with your husband. But the challenge has a twist. Speak well of them even when they aren’t around. Purpose to say something positive.

The difficultly lies in the fact that we are often very good about making a positive actually a negative. Hence the photo of Alcatraz above. Make sure the gates are not just bars on a cell! Make it a true positive. If you struggle finding something then purpose to look.

You’ve Just Been Served

20130107-225125.jpg

There is a pastor in El Salvador who makes this for us every time. He has a servants heart wanting to bless us with this amazing meal.

Serving, it is not the easiest thing to do. Putting others needs first, being aware and looking for ways to fill others’ needs is hard but definitely worth it. It helps us to be humbled, brings us joy and most importantly it blesses God.

Don’t forget to comment on how your challenge went this week!

Here are some verses in serving:

But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42-45

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14

Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for* you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality. Colossians 3:22-25

Let as many bondservants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed. And those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they are brethren, but rather serve them because those who are benefited are believers and beloved. Teach and exhort these things. 1 Timothy 6:1-2

Anxious Ambassador

“I have come as an ambassador” I announced walking into the room. That is definitely the first time I have ever spoken that sentence before! It was an issue that had arisen just before my boss went into an appointment. He was aware of it but he was not able to go immediately himself. So I went in his stead until he was able to go himself. I was an ambassador.

The interesting part was what happened to me after the fact. My boss was then in the meeting and I was not. I was anxious and worried. Why? These were my thoughts, “did I represent him well? Was what I said clear and would he have said it himself?”

That is when it hit me, I am never this nervous about how I represent Christ. And yet that I do every day all day. Not once can I think of coming home and wondering if God is pleased with how I represented Him. I sometimes worry about how I am affected by days events, sometimes I realize I have done wrong but the repentance is based more in how it affects me. Not in how I represented Christ as His ambassador. It really struck me, I should be more concerned about this. More aware at all times that I am speaking for Him.

Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:20-21

Wednesday Web Sitings

20130104-235603.jpg

My father is one of the most servant hearted people I know. That’s why I chose that picture above. He is always putting others first and serving them. Its a blessing to watch.

On to our web sitings for the week!

This website has a whole slew of options on how to serve others! If you are running out of ideas on how to serve the person you have chose for this week’s challenge then skim through these for some inspiration!100 Ways To Serve Others

Random Acts Of Kindness Can you believe it? A whole website on random acts of kindness! That’s awesome, happy exploring!

In light of the recent school shooting in Connecticut NBC published the following list of ideas, suggesting that people do random acts of kindness in the name of those killed on that tragic day. NBC’s Idea List

Here is another fun list of ideas from Good Housekeeping http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/health/wellness/acts-of-kindness

Granted some of these lists are for random people or directed towards anyone in your life but you can find ideas or adjust them in light of this week’s challenge. While these are mostly random acts of kindness its still in the heart of serving others. That is kindness and service, seeing a need and meeting it.

Sneaky Service

20130101-112006.jpg

She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
Proverbs 31:12

The above picture represents service to me in a couple of ways. There is a gentleman that I know who loves to serve people. He looks for needs to fill. Small needs, big needs, it doesn’t matter. He will fill it if he is able. One of the small things he does that most people don’t even realize is that when he hands you a mug he will turn the handle so that it is facing you. If its a soda he will open it and turn it so the opening is facing you. All you have to do is reach out and grab and take a drink.

The reason I love this quality is because it is such an unnoticed act. It is the perfect example of serving without seeking recognition for what you have done but simply for the sake of serving.

This is our challenge for the week. Pick someone to serve this week, preferable an authority figure (if you are married I suggest your husband). Look for something small every day that you can do to serve this person. Try to find something that won’t be realized. Something small and simple that will bless that person without them realizing it or knowing who it was that did it. We want invisibility or anonymity, either one. The goal is to purpose this every day. Pick the person now, its easy to switch it up every day but I want this to challenge us. So stick with the same person for the challenge, but don’t let that keep you to only that person for the week.

The second reason I love this picture is because it is my father’s favorite mug when he comes to visit me. When he is here I try to serve him his coffee in this mug because I know he likes it. This is a perfect example of a small way you can serve someone. Notice what they like or dislike and try to make that happen. If they like a certain type of coffee, bring in an extra bag of that, even if its not your turn to bring in the coffee. If your husband has a favorite mug, make sure its clean on Saturday morning before he gets up.

A Day In The Life Of A Fish

His name was Wait-And-See. I first got him as a 10 cent feeder fish. He was so cute just swimming around in the tank. A few months later I moved from California to Nevada and he came with me. He survived four hours in the car one day, a night in a motel and another four hours the next day.

He grew and thrived until one day I realized the poor guy was so big he could barely turn around in the triangular one gallon tank. He would swim in circles in one direction all day. What a boring life!

So I got a ten gallon tank.

He grew and thrived more and more! He survived so many other fish. He ate the ghost shrimp that were supposed to be bottom feeders that cleaned the tank.

He got me thinking though, what kind of existence is that? To live in four square walls and swim in circles. They say that goldfish have only a 3 second memory. I hope that is true for their sake. How do they know? Who learned to speak goldfish? Are goldfish found in the wild? If so are they territorial? Because if so how do they remember their territory?

This train of questioning could go on forever, and though I enjoy it I will leave you with just those few. If you know, leave me a comment and explain. Especially how they know Goldfish have a 3 second memory. That would be interesting to know. Or boring. I’m not sure. If its a scientific explanation then just give me a summary.
