There are times in life when it is so easy to trust God. To say, “God has a purpose in everything” or “God is in control,” but there are times when those words sound so hollow and empty. Oswald Chambers says in My Utmost For His Highest on August 28,
On the mount is it easy to say, “oh yes God can do it”; but you have to come down into the demon possessed valley and meet with the facts that laugh ironically at the whole of your mount-of-transfiguration belief.
How do we hold onto faith like this? How do we keep the valleys from killing our hope and faith? We steep. We sit, like tea, in that hot water and wait. Remembering what we have learned and what the Scriptures say. Clinging to the Word of God like none other.
And then, like a proper tea leaf, our faith will unfurl with the sweetest aroma. But beware a heart that doesn’t trust, for that will cause you to be bitter. Have you met someone like this? Who’s aroma is sweet but who’s flavor is ruined?
So steep to it dear one. God’s just unraveling the corners of your faith. Trust Him to know how long to steep you in this trial and He will give you not only the sweet aroma but the perfect flavor.
